New York state senator introduces study to look at breaking state into Upstate and Downstate
Daphne Jordan, a Republican from upstate New York, wants a new state formed
Sen. Daphne Jordan is dividing the Empire State into two sides — literally. Jordan introduced a bill last week that would study the feasibility of breaking New York into two separate states: Upstate and Downstate.
New York would include all the five boroughs of New York City, as well us downstate areas such as Yonkers Mount Vernon and Long Island.
The rest of the state should be West New York.
The two regions have long been at odds with each other on many things — politically, economically and even football teams (Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets or Giants).
