Woman Dies After Being Trapped In Yonkers House Fire

A 54-year-old Yonkers woman, who was trapped in a home on William Street during a fire, died at a local hospital Thursday, according to the Yonkers Police Department. Firefighters responded to the fire around 11 a.m. at 7 William St., in the Nodine neighborhood, to find smoke coming from the basement area of the two-story home, fire department officials said.

Yonkers Firefighters Battle Blaze At Construction Building

At approximately 10 a.m. on Thursday, fire crews were dispatched to 1173 Warburton Ave., where there was a reported fire in a building that is currently under construction, Yonkers Fire Chief of Personnel Thomas Fitzpatrick Jr. confirmed. A contractor from Westchester was charged with felony arson Wednesday after allegedly starting a fire on the roof of a Queens building on Tuesday that turned into a five-alarm blaze injuring 11 firefighters, according to the NYPD. Declan McElhatton, 52, of Yonkers was arrested Wednesday after using a torch near combustibles to start the fire on the roof of a seven-story building at 56-11 94th St., said NYPD officials.
