Bicycle Sundays Set To Start In Westchester

Nearly seven miles of the Bronx River Parkway will be closed to motorists between White Plains and Yonkers on Sunday, May 6 for the first of a summer's worth of bicycle freedom. The UNCW women's tennis doubles team of Maddy Muller-Hughes and Sabrina Barisano has been named to the CAA First-Team Muller-Hughes, a freshman from Perth, Australia, and Barisano, a junior from Yonkers, N.Y., carved out a 6-3 record at the top of the lineup for the Seahawks and third-year Head Coach "Congratulations to Sabrina and Maddy on being selected to the All-Conference team," said Olsen. Yonkers Schools Announce Merged Football Teams For Upcoming Season

Although most sports fans' eyes are glued to the hardwood as March Madness approaches, officials with the Yonkers School District have been busy finalizing the details of their two newly merged football teams. Yonkers Board of Education President Steve Lopez recently released the names of the new 2018-2019 Yonkers merged football teams: the "Brave" and the "Force," names that "themselves project the fortitude, strength of character and determination of our students and community," he said.

Tournament Set To Benefit Former Yonkers Pro Baseball Prospect’s Foundation

A memorial basketball tournament is being held in Yonkers to benefit the Michael Nolan Scholarship Fund, founded in the name of the former Oakland Athletics prospect who was fatally shot in a drive-by in 2015. The Michael Nolan Basketball Tournament will be held beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Lincoln High School on Kneeland Avenue in Yonkers.

Iona Prep Wins Special Olympics Polar Plunge Statewide Challenge for 2nd Consecutive Year

For the second year in a row, the Iona Prep "Plungers" have been named the top team in all of New York State for their fundraising efforts as part of the Special Olympics Polar Plunge. The Gaels raised $35,705 at the 9th annual Westchester Polar Plunge, with more than 100 students jumping into frigid waters at Glen Island Park on November 18. Ryan Murphy, a senior from Yonkers, has participated in the Polar Plunge since he was a freshman, saying helping others not only feels great, but also means a lot - even if the water is close to freezing.
