Posts drawn for $1.8 million NY Night of Champions

YONKERS, NY , Monday, September 17, 2018-Post positions have been drawn for Saturday's $1.8 million New York Night of Champions, with Yonkers Raceway again hosting the 29th edition of the Empire State's richest night of harness racing. Eight, $225,000 sire stakes finals, each sponsored by a prominent breeding farm or organization, feature the best 2- and 3-year-olds of both sexes and gaits.

Yonkers $156,000 NYSS to Thunder & Gimpanzee

Yonkers Raceway Friday night wrapped up its New York Sire Stakes legs--all 16 of 'em--with the $156,200 Lew Barasch Trot for 2-year-old harness racing colts and geldings. Friday's event once again honored the memory of 'Tootie,' whose unmatched PR savvy in the golden age of the game helped make the nascent Roosevelt International Trot a happening.

LP Roy makes Yonkers debut in Messenger

YONKERS, N.Y. Driver Louis-Philippe Roy's ride with Jimmy Freight to date has already been a fulfilling one. One of the first major stakes horses the Quebec native has traveled with, Jimmy Freight has taken the 28-year-old reinsman to the Meadowlands Pace and the Carl Milstein Memorial.

Hoosier invader Pistol Packin Mama at Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. Trainer Jeff Cullipher got to know harness racing pacer Pistol Packin Mama well this spring at Hoosier Park. The 4-year-old mare raced against his star distaffer Au D Lox Bluegrass twice, once in the Filly and Mare Invitational May 19 and again in the Filly and Mare Preferred June 9. Pistol Packin Mama got the upper hand each time, including the latter start by a nose in 1:49.4. Tragically, Au D Lox Bluegrass, a 17-time winner and earner of $377,339 died suddenly just after the pair's final matchup.

US Open Stadium Debuts and Swan Songs

The U.S. Tennis Association officially opening the new refurbished and "roofed" Louis Armstrong Stadium Wednesday and christened the court with an exhibition match between Queens natives John and Patrick McEnroe against Yonkers, N.Y.-born James Blake and Hoboken, N.J.-born Michael Chang. With their match, the McEnroes, Blake and Chang are added to a list of trivia questions as to who played the first match at the new roofed Louis Armstrong Stadium.
