YONKERS ROUNDUP: Yonkers Congressman Eliot Engel Will Refuse New York Times Endorsement Over Column Calling for Use of Military Against American Citizens

Congressman #EliotEngel has issued the following statement for immediate release:

“Because of the opinion column calling for using the military against American citizens on American soil – and the obvious pain it causes for the paper’s journalists of color – I have decided not to seek the The New York Times endorsement and I call on my opponents in this race to do the same.

Sadly, any endorsement from an editorial board that supports the publication of such un-American demands at a time of great pain and turmoil is not worth the paper it’s printed on.
No U.S. Senator should be calling out the military on the pages of the #NewYorkTimes.

And no real progressive leader can morally accept the paper’s endorsement.

We must stand with those protesting the paper’s policy, and reject their consideration until this and all similar columns are struck from the Times archives and an apology is issued by the editorial board and publisher.
No one respects the right to free speech more than I do – and no one has more respect for journalism.

That’s exactly why I reject this process.

And that’s why I’m cancelling my interview.

Every progressive seeking election in this country should do the same.”

PATCH: 3 Men Accused Of Stealing IDs And $100K In Electronics In Yonkers

Once the fraud was discovered, the employees resigned from the company.

From about January 2019 through August 2019, two employees of the telecommunications company opened numerous fraudulent customer accounts at a store in #Yonkers, police alleged.

They were assisted by a third person who provided them with stolen Personal Identity Information (PII) of multiple victims.

The scheme also involved a group of “runners” who brought the stolen PII into the store.
The stolen information belonged to real people and businesses and included names, addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers.

Using this stolen information, the employees created accounts in the victims’ names without their knowledge.

The victims learned of the fraud after the accounts went into default and they received bills for the merchandise charged in their names.

The company, which has cooperated in the investigation, is not being identified at this time due to the ongoing probe.

Arrested in recent days were: Rafael Vidal Aponte, 31, of #Pomona, N.Y., Jordon Andre Clarke, 25, of the #Bronx, N.Y., and Edwin Olivera, 31, of #ForestHills, N.Y.

DAILY MESSENGER: Governor Andrew Cuomo seeks package of police reforms

Andrew Cuomo is pushing state lawmakers to ban the use of chokeholds by police and approve other legislation seeking to address concerns raised by protests against the death of George Floyd.

#GovernorCuomo called it the “Say Their Name” reform agenda, referring to a list of people of color who died at the hands of police in recent decades, culminating with Floyd’s death on Memorial Day in Minnesota.

#AndrewCuomo announced the effort during a press briefing Friday after criticizing the actions of police caught on video shoving a 75-year-old man to the ground during protests in the city of Buffalo on Thursday night.

“You see that video and it disturbs your basic sense of decency and humanity,” Andrew Cuomo said.

The police reforms sought by Governor Andrew Cuomo include:

• A ban on law enforcement chokeholds

• Making police disciplinary records transparent through changes to the state law known as 50-a.

• Making false race-based 911 emergency calls a hate crime

• Requiring the state Attorney General to act as independent prosecutor for any police officer-involved death, which would codify a 2015 executive order into state law….
