The Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department was busy on Sunday responding to several reported fires, including a blaze in a dumpster at Kmart. The day began shortly before 2:30 a.m. when firefighters were dispatched to put out a brush fire at the town's compost plant near Greenwood Street.
The fire, which began at 10:20 a.m., started in the chimney with smoke coming from the gable ends when firefighters arrived, according to the Yorktown Heights Fire Department Facebook post.
