The leader in Spanish-language broadcasting threatened pulling its programming in the wake of Charter’s $71.4 billion acquisition of Time Warner Cable. Univision warned Charter Communications subscribers that the Spanish-language giant may pull its programming from major markets like Los Angeles and New York in a skirmish over contract negotiations.

NBC affiliate WESH -Channel 2 on Tuesday afternoon provided an update and said Hearst “is continuing its efforts to renew its carriage agreement with DirecTV after reaching an impasse on New Year’s Eve.” “Our negotiating team has been ready and available around-the-clock, including throughout the holiday weekend, to engage in substantive negotiations with DirecTV; however, we’ve been thwarted by what appears to be a strategy of unrealistic proposals and outright delay by a national distributor that does not seek to serve their subscribers or local communities,” said John R. Soapes, president and general manager of WESH and WKCF.

NBCUniversal extends deadline, averting a Charter-Spectrum blackout, for now
LOS ANGELES_Media giant NBCUniversal has granted an extension in its carriage talks with cable television provider Charter Communications, averting a New Year’s Eve blackout of NBC-owned channels in nearly 16 million homes in the U.S. with Spectrum service. “Negotiations with Charter Spectrum for the NBCUniversal portfolio of networks have been extended,” NBCUniversal said in a statement.
