The Common Touch scheduled for Documentary Edge Festival

A Kiwi short-film about a Christchurch high school student who made global headlines after his prizegiving speech, will screen at this year’s Documentary Edge Film Festival. Directed by student filmmaker Mason Cade Packer, The Common Touch follows former Christchurch Boys’ High School pupil Jakob Ross Bailey’s quest to inspire others, after his 2015 prizegiving speech, just days after learning of his life-threatening cancer diagnosis, struck a chord with people around the world.

University to honour distinguished alumni

Outstanding graduates of the University of Auckland, in fields ranging from the creative arts and broadcasting to science, health and optometry, will be honoured at a gala dinner this month [10 March]. The University will recognise four winners of Distinguished Alumni Awards and a Young Alumna of the Year for their outstanding contributions to their professions, their communities, New Zealand and internationally.

Music from Copland House Takes Flight Next Month

Taking flight on Sunday afternoon, March 19 at 3pm is The Life of Birds, a musical aviary exploring the journeys, habits, and “personalities” of some astonishingly versatile flying, feathered singers. The concert takes its name from a work by Mason Bates, the Kennedy Center’s first Composer-in-Residence; calling it “a web of short but dense moments from the aviary,” the music visits parakeets, flycatchers, and other winged creatures at rest and play, in love, and in flight.
