Malaysian poultry banned over deadly avian flu
Imports of poultry meat and eggs from a region of Malaysia has been banned immediately as a result of an outbreak of the deadly H5N1 avian flu, food safety authorities said. The Centre for Food Safety announced that it had been informed by the World Organisation for Animal Health about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Kota Bharu District in Kelantan State, Malaysia.

Spain reported a case of the highly contagious H5N8 bird flu virus in a northeastern farm in Catalonia and said it would cull 17,000 ducks, the regional government confirmed on Thursday. Germany completed the culling of 45,000 turkeys over the weekend and several thousand more are due to be destroyed after more cases of the contagious H5N8 strain of bird flu were identified on German farms, authorities said on Monday.
