A STEAM engine which was built in Horwich in the 1950s has been brought back to life and christened the ‘Lancashire Lazarus’. The locomotive, numbered 76084, is the youngest of 10 surviving engines and was built at the Horwich Works in 1957.

Police in the UK have solved a year-long mystery by identifying a body found on an English hillside, but plenty of questions are yet to be answered. At an inquest in Greater Manchester overnight on Thursday , police identified the man as David Lytton, 67, originally from London.

Work on flood defences continues a year on from storm Eva hitting town
Storm Eva hit Warrington on Boxing Day 2015, leaving parts of town including Latchford Locks, Longford, Sankey Valley Park, Woolston Park, Lymm, Croft and Burtonwood flooded. A 100m section of Cromwell Avenue between Europa Boulevard and Sankey Brook was hit with 150mm of flood water, with Environment Agency flood defences protecting 119 properties.
