Islamabad, Feb 27 – Some 170 peacocks have reportedly succumbed to an avian disease in Pakistan’s Tharparkar region, local media reported. Tharparkar’s honorary district game warden Talook Chand Valasai confirmed the death toll, saying at least 30 birds died in various parts of the desert during the last couple of days.

A Pakistani judge has banned Valentine’s Day celebrations in the country’s capital, saying they are against Islamic teachings. Court official Niaz Saleh says the judge ruled Monday on a petition seeking to ban public celebrations in Islamabad.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has praised a slain Kashmir rebel leader and reiterated his condemnation of Indian “repression” in the disputed region, in remarks likely to re-ignite tensions between the nuclear-armed rivals. Addressing a Kashmir conference held in Islamabad on Thursday, Sharif referred to 22-year-old Burhan Wani, whose killing in July sparked months of violent demonstrations, as a “martyr.”

Islamabad, Jan. 3 : A district and session court here has sent a ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Islamabad chapter’s office bearer on a 14-day judicial remand to Adiala Jail in an alleged gang-rape case. A woman was allegedly gang-raped in Islamabad on New Year’s Eve by four men, reports the Dawn.
