International Athletics Federation President Sebastian Coe says that India has the capability to host big ticket track and field events and he would love to see the prestigious Diamond League Meeting being held in the country in near future. Coe, who was in India early this year for his first visit to a member federation after taking over as IAAF chief, said that the athletics events of the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games was a huge success and it showed that the country can host big international meets.
Cascades Hall of Fame class set
Former UFV athletic director Jane Antil and basketball coach Pat Lee will be honoured as builders; women’s basketball standouts Carolyne Lucy and Tracy MacLeod will be inducted as athletes; and the 1987-88 men’s basketball squad will be celebrated in the team category. Hall of Fame festivities, including an on-court ceremony between games, will be held Jan. 6 in conjunction with the Cascades basketball home games vs. the MacEwan Griffins at the Envision Athletic Centre.
International Olympic Committee opens 28 new doping cases for Russian athletes
On yet another doping-tainted day for Russian sport, 28 athletes now face IOC cases linked to cheating at the Sochi Winter Olympics and a major cross-country skiing event was removed from the country. The IOC said Friday it has opened 28 disciplinary proceedings against Russian athletes whose urine samples were likely tampered with at the 2014 Olympics.
