Steam locomotive replaces regular passenger service for first time in 50 years
The romance of steam returns to Britain’s railways for Valentine’s Day as a traditional locomotive hauls passengers on a scheduled main line service for the first time in half a century. The Peppercorn class A1 steam locomotive, Tornado, will pass over the “Roof of England” on the famous Settle to Carlisle line later today, carrying hundreds of steam enthusiasts.

A LEADING GP has warned that doctors could be reluctant to take on extra shifts as a new scheme offering patients appointments seven days a week gets underway. On Wednesday three federations of GP practices, including one in Abingdon, agreed to launch the new service, with additional hours on weekday evenings, and a surgeries on Sunday from 8am to 11am.

A 21-year-old man was banned from driving for 15 months last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for an excess alcohol offence. A public prosecutor said that police received a report of suspected drink driving in the Scarva Road area of Banbridge on August 20 last year.
Boy, 11, injured in York hit and run
North Yorkshire Police said the boy was cycling home from Joseph Rowntree School when his bike was hit from behind close to the junction of Aucuba Close and Alder Way in New Earswick . A spokesman said the boy suffered “minor injuries, scrapes and bruising”, when he was knocked off his cycle, and the driver did not stop at the scene.
