Defending overall World Cup champion Lara Gut extended her perfect run in super-G this season with a comfortable win Sunday while Lindsey Vonn struggled to a ninth-place finish. For her third straight super-G victory, Swiss skier Gut finished 0.67 seconds ahead of Stephanie Venier of Austria and 0.86 in front of Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.

Calgary’s Elisabeth Vathje and Ottawa’s Mirela Rahneva won gold and bronze respectively on Sunday at a skeleton World Cup event in Winterberg, Germany. Vathje slid to a golden time of 58.02, while Rahneva clocked-in at 58.14 for the bronze in the weather-shortened one-run race.

Fine for hockey champion Ruzicka over corruption upheld

The financial penalty of 400,000 crowns for a Czech hockey coach, a former national team star Vladimir Ruzicka, who kept half a million crowns that were to be sent to the Slavia Praha club is valid, the Prague Municipal Court ruled on Wednesday, turning down Ruzicka’s appeal. Ruzicka can still file a recourse with the Supreme Court.
