142 Criminally Charged Illegal Immigrants Released By Travis County

From the time period between January 28 – February 3, 2017, 206 criminally charged illegal immigrants nationwide were released from custody due to the denial of ICE detainer requests. The worst offender was Travis County, which accounted for 142 of those released and charged with crimes including sexual assault, aggravated assault, domestic violence, and robbery.

37 suspected undocumented immigrants released under Travis County Sheriff’s immigration policy

When Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez’s new immigration policy went into effect Wednesday, 37 suspected undocumented immigrants were released, according to the Austin American-Statesman. The policy does not allow federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents without warrants to ask the sheriff’s office to turn over suspected undocumented immigrants held in local jails.

When Every Story Is About the President

There were a couple of ideological splits at my college newspaper, the Daily Texan at the University of Texas. There was the usual Left-Right split; the Travis County Democratic party thought highly enough of our newspaper that it spent money working against conservatives who ran for the paper’s editorship.
