Several Greenwich golfers qualify for Met Junior Championship

The 101st Met Junior Championship will take place July 16-19 at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, N.Y., and several players from Fairfield County qualified to compete in the nation's oldest junior championship. Matt Camel, a Greenwich resident and rising senior at Brunswick School shot a 2-over-par 74 at a Met Junior qualifier last week at Fairview Country Club.

Bronxville Chess Team Takes Second In National Championship

Members of the Bronxville School chess team took home the silver medal at the Under-1900 division of this year's National High School Chess Championships, which were recently held in Columbus, Ohio, marking the team's best finish in a national event. School officials said that the students "demonstrated outstanding mental endurance and strategic planning over the course of the competition," as they competed against 1,500 of the nation's top players from 42 states.

New Rochelle State Swimming Champ Heading To University Of Hawaii

New Rochelle High School senior Michael Lawson, who became a two-time state champion this year, announced his intention to head to Hawaii following graduation, where he will take to the pool at the University of Hawaii. An all-American, Lawson has competed in the New York State High School Swimming Championships for four years in a row as part of the New Rochelle-Bronxville joint swim team, claiming his latest championship earlier this year.

Gloversville grad Pettit honored

The SUNY Cobleskill Department of Sport & Exercise announced Tuesday that senior Joslen Pettit, a Gloversville graduate and a member of the men's swimming & diving team, was named the athletic program's Fighting Tiger Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending Nov. 5. Pettit was the team's top performer in their 87-72 loss at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville on Saturday, winning the 200-yard butterfly in 2:46.82, while taking second place in the 200-freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle .

The Bronxville High School girl's varsity track and field team took their talents to the Penn Relays recently, narrowly breaking a school record as they took center stage at the popular event. At the annual Penn Relays, which brings some of the region's top student-athletes to the University of Pennsylvania for the track meet, members of the 4x400-meter relay team finished second, with a time of 3:56.82, breaking the previous record by .02 seconds.

Bronxville High School Swimmers Earn Medals at State Championship

Members of the New Rochelle-Bronxville combined swim team pulled down medals at the New York State Boys Swim and Dive Championships, which took place on March 3 and 4 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, New York. The team finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay in the federation and won the state title in the 400-yard freestyle relay, according to a release from the Bronxville Union Free School District.

Bronxville High Junior Grabs Three Gold Medals at Swimming Championship

Bronxville High School junior Andrew Babyak took home three gold medals and a silver at the Section I Boys Swimming Championship finals at Felix Festa Middle School in West Nyack on Feb. 8. Babyak, who swims for the New Rochelle-Bronxville combined team, placed first in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle individual events. He also won a gold medal in the 200-yard freestyle relay as a member of the team, which currently holds the fastest time in the state in that discipline, and a silver medal as a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Karissa Birthwright scored a career-high 25 points and Taylor Nazon added 17 as Saint Rose topped Concordia, 66-64, in a women's basketball game at Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville. Nazon sank a pair of free throws in the final seconds to seal the win after Concordia used a 10-2 run in the final two minutes to pull within 64-62 on two free throws by Lyric Blanch.
