Sixty police recruits graduated Friday, May 25 from the Westchester County Police Academy and have landed coveted law enforcement jobs at 16 police departments in Westchester and one in New York City. The new officers, who completed 20 weeks of training at the police academy in Valhalla, received their diplomas during a ceremony at Purchase College of the State University of New York.

Students from the Bronxville High School were among those celebrated for taking a stand in the debate on gun violence at the New Yorkers Against Gun Violence Westchester Regional benefit, which was held in Eastchester on April 26. Former Westchester Doctor Charged With Stealing $500K From Woman

A 69-year-old former physician has been charged with grand larceny for stealing more than $500,000 from a 97-year-old woman, according to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. Peter Corines of Eastchester was charged Tuesday following an investigation into the theft which took place during a two-week period in November 2017, the DA's office said. The felony complaint against Corines says that the former doctor stole from Bernice Judd Porter of Yonkers by falsely claiming to be her power of attorney or pretending to be her on the phone or online with numerous financial institutions where the victim had accounts, the DA's office said.
