Convicted ‘Serial Groper’ From New Rochelle Now Lives In Rockland

A serial groper that allegedly victimized multiple New Rochelle women in 2014 has registered as a sex offender living in Orangeburg, according to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. On four separate occasions over a near two-week span in June 2014, New Rochelle native Guillermo Merino, 41, grabbed the buttocks of various women without consent or purpose while walking through the city, according to authorities.

New Rochelle Contractors Get Scare After Finding Massive Beehive In Pelham

A contracting crew removing a tree in Pelham got a brief scare on Thursday morning when they came across a massive beehive while finishing up their work. Crews from Almstead Tree, Shrub and Lawn Care in New Rochelle were working near the intersection of Irving Place and Cliff Avenue when they spotted the beehive, which they described as having a circumference greater than a foot.

Bronxville High Junior Grabs Three Gold Medals at Swimming Championship

Bronxville High School junior Andrew Babyak took home three gold medals and a silver at the Section I Boys Swimming Championship finals at Felix Festa Middle School in West Nyack on Feb. 8. Babyak, who swims for the New Rochelle-Bronxville combined team, placed first in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle individual events. He also won a gold medal in the 200-yard freestyle relay as a member of the team, which currently holds the fastest time in the state in that discipline, and a silver medal as a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Isaac E. Young Students Start With Hello For Sandy Hook Promise Initiative

Isaac E. Young Middle School in New Rochelle recently launched its inaugural Start with Hello, a Sandy Hook Promise initiative that teaches students to reach out to those who may be dealing with chronic social isolation. Sandy Hook's Promise trained 40 student leaders, also called Castle Ambassadors, to promote a connected and inclusive school community, according a release from the City School District of New Rochelle.

The Long, Lonesome Road Sam Friend, 28, is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, banjoist, composer, arranger, and bandleader known for his command of the blues, rock, funk, and traditional jazz. New Rochelle Parents Learn To Model Classroom Reading

Spanish-speaking parents of Davis Elementary students in New Rochelle learned to replicate the reading style of teachers so that they could read to their children at home, during a recent workshop held in the public library. The effort was such a success that a second workshop is planned for this school year, according to a release from the City School District of New Rochelle.

CNR Wins Key HVIAC Contest Over SUNY-ESF

The College of New Rochelle men's basketball team picked up a huge Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory thanks to a 93-86 win over SUNY-ESF in action on Saturday. When they arrived on the scene, they found the victim lying face down in the center field area of the ball field.
