State Increases Driver’s License Points For Tickets At Railroad Crossings

In an ongoing effort to make the state's rail crossings safer, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles has increased the points assigned to drivers found guilty of violating the rules governing such crossings from three points to five, officials said. State Assemblyman David Buchwald said in a statement that the point change comes as officials across the state continue to respond to the Metro-North train crash that claimed six lives and injured many more in Valhalla just over two years ago.

State Gets Power To Identify, Fix Dangerous Railroad Crossings

State Sen. David Carlucci, whose just-signed law allows for a comprehensive review of rail crossings, appeared Thursday at the site of a deadly train-car collision in Valhalla. Under the new legislation, the state will, after taking stock of dangerous crossings and reviewing their traffic and pedestrian warning signals, be able to fix them, Carlucci said.
