Demonstrators who crawled into pipe reach deal with police

Four demonstrators who crawled into a pipe to stop construction at the Algonquin pipeline project in Verplanck reached a deal with a state police tactical team on Monday evening. The protesters negotiated a deal with police that they will only face reduced charges of criminal trespass if they come out on their own by 12 p.m. Tuesday.

Four protesters who crawled inside lengths of pipeline along the Hudson River to stop Spectra Energy from dragging its 42-inch diameter, high-pressure, methane gas pipeline under the Hudson River, remain inside the pipe late Monday. The protesters have been inside the pipe for more than seven hours after sneaking into the work area earlier Monday, said Nancy Vann of Resist Spectra.
