YONKERS: Congressman #EliotEngel has issued the following statement on the events in Lafayette Park:

“This madness must end. The President is calling out the U.S. military to attack American citizens on American streets. He fired at protesters at a peaceful march so that he could stage a photo opportunity across the street.

As a member of the Democratic leadership and chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, I shudder to consider how foreign governments view this administration.

How can the United States hold its head up on the international stage when its leader tramples on the rights of its citizenry?
This election is about the future and stopping the President from abusing our Constitution.

We have free speech in this country. We have the right to assembly.

We prize the right to protest. I will fight with every fiber of my being to preserve those rights.”
