Governor Brian Sandoval today announced he has signed a letter to President Donald Trump respectfully requesting a major disaster declaration for Northern Nevada following the February weather event and sent a formal communication to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for assistance specific to Lemmon Valley in Washoe Valley. “I was grateful for the three-day approval for the funds related to the January event but even at that time, we knew the sustained weather event would likely require a second request from our federal partners,” said Governor Brian Sandoval.

Frierson, D-Las Vegas, was elected to lead the Legislature’s lower chamber as lawmakers started work in the session that lasts until June 5. It also marked the first time that both the state Assembly and Senate will be led at the same time by black legislators.

Democrats will control both legislative chambers, holding an 11-9-1 majority in the state Senate and a 27-15 majority in the Assembly.
Nevada Sen. Dean Heller To Run For Reelection, Not Governor
Dean Heller made an announcement earlier this week that he would be seeking reelection for his Senate seat. The Nevada Republican had previously been mulling a gubernatorial run as Gov. Brian Sandoval is term limited and will be stepping down in 2018.
