Air Force base: 1 killed, 1 injured in New Mexico training

Officials at Holloman Air Force Base say one person was killed and another injured in a training accident on a military range in southern New Mexico. Base officials say in a statement that the Tuesday night accident involved members of a ground-control party struck as two F-16 jets used unspecified air-to-ground munitions at a range that’s part of the White Sands Missile Range complex near Holloman.

Complaint: Religious message on Wright-Patterson AFB boxes broke Air Force rules

PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – A complaint alleges an intelligence center at Ohio’s largest military base broke U.S. Air Force rules by allowing religious references on charity collection boxes that were inside two of its buildings. The Dayton Daily News reports a National Air and Space Intelligence Center employee filed the complaint Tuesday with the center’s Inspector General’s office.

FORT DIX – The flight crew of a military transport aircraft had more to contend with than clouds and a dark night Friday – the light from a laser pointer hit the plane, causing a serious safety risk, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. Friday as the crew was flying a C-17 military aircraft about 20 miles southeast of McGuire Air Force Base, officials said.

Air Guard squadron has new leader

Lt. Col. Jhonny Polanco assumed command of the unit Tuesday, according to a news release from the Air National Guard. The squadron flies KC-135s to refuel aircraft around the world. It’s part of the larger Alaska Air National Guard Unit, the 168th Wing.
