As a hunter and conservationist, I am disturbed to learn that one of the final acts of the outgoing director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was to ban the use of lead ammunition on federal land, including wildlife refuges, park lands where hunting is permitted, and other land the agency administers. Worse, the ban was effective immediately.
There’s an environmental argument against Trump’s border wall, too.
After President Trump signed an executive order to advance plans for a wall along the border with Mexico, architects, conservationists, and environmental activists protested that it would do little to stop migrants from crossing the border but would create lasting problems for animals and the land. Controlled burns conducted at Carroll Lake
Workers with the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency and Tennessee Department of Forestry conducted controlled burns on what used to be the bottom of Carroll Lake last week in order to clear out some of the vegetation in preparation for the refilling of the lake. Anyone driving by the site of Carroll Lake on Highway 22 last week may have noticed a lot of smoke coming from an area that was once covered by water.
