Students Honored by Mamaroneck Artists’ Guild

New Rochelle High School visual arts students participated in the regional Mamaroneck Artists' Guild program, "2017 Young Artists on the Rise" and were honored at a reception at the MAG Gallery in Larchmont on Feb. 1. Eleven New Rochelle students won awards at the show: Nasreen Ahmed, 11th grade; Siena Callegari, 11th grade; Anne Hessel, 9th grade; Natalie Hernandez, 12th grade; Adina Hoppenstein, 12th grade; Amen Hussain, 11th grade; Eduardo Lopez, 11th grade; Fernanda Lujan, 11th grade; Colleen Maria, 12th grade; Jose Rodriguez, 12th grade; and Isaiah Shaw, 12th grade.

Off-Duty New Rochelle Cop May Face Harsher Charges In Fatal DWI Crash

The off-duty New Rochelle police officer accused of driving drunk with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit may see additional charges levied against him as the investigation into Monday morning's crash continues. At approximately 3 a.m. on Monday, Harry Kyreakedes, who has been with the New Rochelle Police Department for more than a year, crashed his SUV into a tree on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains, killing 27-year-old Isaac Ward.

Tow truck drivers salute hit-and-run victim

More than 100 tow trucks lined up today in Harbor Island Park as the drivers paid their respects to Sal Brescia, who died when he was fatally stuck on I-95 by a hit-and-run driver on Dec. 29. The drivers planned a procession along the streets of Mamaroneck to honor Brescia before the funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church in New Rochelle. Joining an unlikely coalition of construction executives, union officials and conservationists, a group of local municipal officials and state lawmakers gathered yesterday at Hommocks Conservation area in Mamaroneck to focus attention on the critically needed clean water infrastructure projects in Mamaroneck, New Rochelle and surrounding communities.
