London, March 10 – People with asthma are likely to have worse symptoms when they get the flu and are more likely to end up in hospitals because of immune system differences, researchers said. Although asthma is considered a chronic disease, doctors have been puzzled by its often changing nature that can makes prescribing medicine, or stopping them, tricky. A study published Tuesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that about one-third of adults tested for the study, who had been diagnosed with asthma in the previous five years, showed no evidence of the condition during later follow-up examinations and testing.

Heartburn drugs during pregnancy may increase child’s risk of asthma
A University of Edinburgh study has found that women who use heartburn medication in pregnancy were more likely to have children who developed asthma. The team, led by the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and the University of Tampere in Finland, found that children born to mothers who used prescribed heartburn medications were one-third more likely to seek treatment for asthma symptoms.
