Joey Alves, Y&T Guitarist, Dies at 63

Joey Alves, founding rhythm guitarist with veteran hard-rock group Y&T, died Sunday after a struggle with ulcerative colitis and other complications. He was 63. Y&T frontman Dave Meniketti, who established the group in the early ’70s with Alves, bassist Phil Kennemore, and drummer Leonard Haze, paid tribute to his late bandmate as “a rhythm guitar monster and fun guy.”

May Ann Sykes, 89, of E. Freetown passed away January 20, 2017 at the Tremont Skilled Care Center. She was the widow of Everett Sykes, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.  Mrs. Sykes was born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Charles P. and Helen M. Thatcher, and resided in E. Freetown most of her life.
