U.S. Coast Guard to suspend search for missing Toronto filmmaker

The U.S. Coast Guard says it will suspend its search at sunset today for a missing Canadian filmmaker who vanished off the coast of Florida earlier this week, but Rob Stewart's family says they'll continue to look for him. The Coast Guard says it has been looking for the 37-year-old Stewart since he was reported missing just before 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Coast Guard respond to release of gas, other substance in Gulf

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement and the U.S. Coast Guard are responding to a release of gas and condensate from a pipeline at West Cameron 165 in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 32 miles southwest of Cameron, Louisiana. According to officials, a helicopter pilot flying over the site reported the incident to the U.S. Coast Guard at approximately 2:00 p.m. Wednesday January 18th.

A dead whale that washed up near the Oakland waterfront on Saturday is now tied to a pier on Angel Island waiting for clear weather so local marine biologists can investigate the cause of death. The female cetacean is either a blue or fin whale and is between 40 to 60 feet long, said Marine Mammal Center spokesman Giancarlo Rulli.

After searching for a small plane that went missing following takeoff from Burke Lakefront Airport on Thursday night, the Coast Guard, along with Cleveland officials, said they will use divers to try to find the plane in Lake Erie.
