Larry N. DeGarmo, 70, of Newport News, Va., passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Va. He was originally from Wellsburg, WV.

He was born on Sept. 25, 1932, in Scobey, Mont., to Palmer and Lydia Bergan. He joined the United States Navy and served during the Korean War, he then served for 33 years in civil service.

George Sinner, North Dakota governor in tough times, dies

WEAVER, Theodore Earl "Teddy" Born Jan. 9, 1948 to Bob and Evelyn Weaver of West Alexandria, OH and graduated from Twin Valley South in 1966. He then enlisted in the Air Force and was honorably discharged as Staff Sargent after four years.

Puerto Rico governor to reduce taxes, increase salaries

Puerto Rico's governor pledged Monday to reduce taxes, raise pay for police officers and implement work requirements for those on welfare to help the U.S. territory recover from Hurricane Maria amid the island's 11-year-old economic crisis. The annual address by Gov. Ricardo Rossello lasted more than an hour and focused on crime, housing, labor, health and energy as anger and frustration grows across the island of 3.3 million people over an increase in crime and what many believe are slow hurricane-recovery efforts.

Parkland survivor helps DNC fundraise ahead of midterms

A survivor of the school shooting in Parkland, Fla., last month is now helping the Democratic National Committee fundraise ahead of the midterm elections in an effort to back lawmakers who support gun control measures. In a DNC email blast Saturday, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Sara Imam urged supporters to not forget the 17 students and faculty who died in the Feb. 14 school shooting and register to vote for the fall elections.

Ohio inmate whose execution halted dies of natural causes

U.S. evangelist Billy Graham to be laid to rest in North Carolina

U.S. evangelist Billy Graham, who preached to millions around the world in a 70-year career, will be laid to rest on Friday in his native North Carolina following a funeral service that will draw thousands of mourners including President Donald Trump. The service for Graham, who died on Feb. 21 at age 99, comes after he lay in honor at the U.S. Capitol in recognition of a clergyman who counseled presidents and was the first noted evangelist to take his message to the Soviet bloc.

Appeals court denies bid to reconsider ruling on Peace Cross

A federal appeals court on Thursday rejected a request to reconsider its ruling that a 40-foot-tall cross on a Maryland highway median just outside Washington violates the U.S. Constitution, prompting supporters of the war memorial to vow to take the case to the U.S. Supreme Court. A divided 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals voted 8-6 to deny a request from the American Legion and other supporters of the 93-year-old World War I monument known as the Peace Cross to rehear the case before the full court.
