Rev. Billy Graham, known as ‘America’s Pastor,’ dies at 99

The Rev. Billy Graham, the magnetic, movie-star-handsome preacher who became a singular force in postwar American religious life, a confidant of presidents and the most widely heard Christian evangelist in history, died Wednesday at 99. "America's Pastor," as he was dubbed, had suffered from cancer, pneumonia and other ailments and died at his home in North Carolina.

Rev. Billy Graham to lie in honor in U.S. Capitol Rotunda ahead of Charlotte burial

Reverend Billy Graham's body will be brought to the U.S. Capitol to "lie in honor" in the Rotunda on Wednesday, Feb. 28 until Thursday, March 1, House Speaker Paul Ryan announced Thursday. Charlotte-born evangelist Reverend William Franklin "Billy" Graham Jr. died just before 8 a.m. Wednesday from natural causes at his family home in Montreat, NC, just outside Asheville.

Paul was born on March 17, 1947, to Ernest and Ida Salonen and attended Bergland Community Schools, graduating in the summer of 1965. He enlisted in the United States Air Force later that year, and was stationed at Loring Air Force Base in northeastern Maine for the duration of his service.
