AP Exclusive: DHS weighed Nat Guard for immigration roundups
This image shows pages 1, 3 and 4 of an 11-page draft memo that circulated within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that proposed calling for the militarization of immigration enforcement as far north as Portland, Oregon, and as far east as New Orleans, Louisiana. The proposal to mobilize as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up unauthorized immigrants, including millions living nowhere near the Mexico border, was still being considered as recently as Feb. 10, according to staffers at DHS.
