What the left leaves out of ‘Black History Month’

Apart from the bizarre notion that educators should set aside one month to salute the historical achievements of one race apart from and above the historical achievements of other races, Black History Month appears to omit a lot of black history. About slavery, do our mostly left-wing educators teach that slavery was not unique to America and is as old as humankind? As economist and author Thomas Sowell says: "More whites were brought as slaves to North Africa than blacks brought as slaves to the United States or to the 13 colonies from which it was formed.

Governor, call a special session to fix teacher retirement system

The Texas Federation of Teachers held a protest rally in front of the Stafford office of Congressman Tom DeLay in 2003, wanting a bill granting teachers full Social Security spousal and family benefits in addition to their Texas Teachers' Retirement System benefits. Editorial, Feb. 18, 2018: Blood on their hands: The carnage continues, but nothing changes

You would think that even gun-toting Second Amendment-quoting hunters and defenders of the homeland must see that the carnage has passed any sane definition of the right to bear arms. Yet, politicians fiddle as young people, concertgoers and innocent bystanders are mowed down by assault weapons that should never be used outside a military battlefield, and as many Americans have given up hope Congress will do anything on gun control legislation.

Every time a school shooting happens we revisit the questions of gun control, mental health, parental supervision and missed clues, as if we could prevent a person intent on such a crime from getting access to the weapons, or we could arrest a likely perpetrator. Let's be realists.
