More than half of all Queenslanders support banning people born after 2001 from buying or smoking tobacco, according to a Cancer Council Queensland survey. The Everyday Health Survey on Tobacco, released on World Cancer Day on Saturday, showed 58 per cent of Queenslanders in favour of making it illegal for young people born after 2001 to smoke.
Universal screening for diabetes, hypertension and cancer
THE Union Health Ministry has decided to implement universal screening for diabetes, hypertension and three types of cancer for everyone over 30 years in 100 districts where the original UPA plan for a similar screening exercise failed to take off. The project is known to have been pushed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who last year had set a deadline for the Ministry to come up with a screening framework for cancer.

Doctor sues Sharp Grossmont alleging retaliation for safety complaints
An East County anesthesiologist has sued Sharp Grossmont Hospital, alleging managers retaliated against him and eventually forced him to resign after he complained about problems that he says ranged from understaffing to video cameras in operating rooms. Dr. Patrick Sullivan, who worked in the La Mesa hospital’s Women’s Health Center from 1994 to 2016, recently filed a lawsuit in San Diego Superior Court that accuses Sharp of ignoring his concerns about patient safety.
