Security flaw hits popular websites

Security firm Cloudflare disclosed late Thursday that a long-running bug in its security systems may have leaked information, including potentially personal information, from thousands of sites including Uber, Fitbit and OK Cupid. The problem was first uncovered by Google security expert Tavis Ormandy, who let Cloudflare know about the issue on Feb. 18. But the service had been leaking information for months in a way that allowed search engines to pick it up, according to Cloudflare.

J.C. Penney announced February 24 that it will be closing between 130 and 140 stores by the end of June and offer early retirement to 6,000 employees. The department store chain did not disclose how many jobs would be cut, but it said it is also offering early retirement to 6,000 full-time employees.

A serious data breach impacting nearly 3,400 websites and apps including Uber and FitBit may have leaked sensitive data across the internet for months. CloudFare, a cybersecurity company warned customers of a critical bug that could have exposed a range of sensitive information including usernames, passwords and other information onto the open internet.

FCC To Block Portion Of Broadband Privacy Rules

The rules, passed by a 3-2 vote last October, require Internet service providers to obtain consumers’ opt-in consent before drawing on their Web-surfing data or app usage history for ad targeting. The privacy order also imposes other requirements on broadband providers, including provisions regarding data breach notifications and data security.
