Exoplanet Discovery: Google Posts Special Logo

Google’s home page has a rare late day Doodle, special logo, this one is for the NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope finding the first known system of seven Earth-size planets around a single star. NASA said “three of these planets are firmly located in the habitable zone, the area around the parent star where a rocky planet is most likely to have liquid water.”

Scientists discover 7 rocky earth-sized exoplanets around nearby star

The illustration released by NASA on Feb. 22, 2017 shows the artist’s concept of what the TRAPPIST-1 planetary system may look like, based on available data about the planets’ diameters, masses and distances from the host star. A compact analogue of our inner solar system about 40 light years away from the Earth has been discovered, NASA announced during a press conference on Wednesday.

Several Earth-Like Planets Discovered Orbiting Nearby Star

When astronomers eyeball little stars twinkling through their telescopes, they now know for certain that circling around some of them are worlds not unlike our own. On Wednesday, a Dutch-led international research team using both ground and space-based telescopes announced they’d discovered a solar system 40 light-years away with seven Earth-size planets revolving around a small star.

Russian supply ship launched to International Space Station

A Soyuz-U booster rocket carrying the Progress MS-05 spacecraft blasted off as scheduled at 11:58 a.m. from the Russian-leased Baikonur launch complex in Kazakhstan. The mission follows the Dec. 1 botched launch of the previous Progress ship, which crashed less than 7 minutes after liftoff, spraying fiery debris over a sparsely populated area in southern Siberia near the border with Mongolia.

SpaceX, Russian cargo ships heading for space station

As a SpaceX Dragon cargo ship closed in on the International Space Station early Wednesday, a Russian Soyuz-U rocket making the venerable booster’s final flight successfully lifted a Progress supply ship into orbit, three months after an upper stage failure destroyed another station-bound freighter. Mounted atop a snow-covered launch pad — the same pad used by cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin at the dawn of the Space Age — the Soyuz-U rocket carrying the Progress MS-05/66P cargo ship thundered to life at 12:58 a.m. EST and climbed away from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

NICER

A new X-ray telescope that’s scheduled for launch as early as April will study the crushed corpses of once-mighty stars. NICER will attach to the International Space Station, as shown in this artist’s concept.

Elon Musk’s Mars plans delayed until 2020

Earlier this year, SpaceX chief, Elon Musk, announced that he was ‘planning to send Dragon to Mars as soon as 2018.’ SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell revealed the new timeline at a press briegfing for the company’s recent launch from NASA ‘s historic launch pad 39A.

How a movie about black NASA heroes became the crowd-pleasing…

The box-office success of best picture nominee “Hidden Figures” is as much an underdog story as the one it tells. When director Theodore Melfi’s look at the black female mathematicians who were vital in getting Americans in space in the 1960s hit wide release in January, industry insiders regarded it as the latest release to get crowded out by “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which still at No.

UAE to build first city on Mars by 2117

The UAE has unveiled plans to build the first city on Mars by 2117 as the energy-rich country looks to transport people to the Red Planet over the next few decades. Do you think the UAE’s Mars 2117 mission will succeed and in the next hundred years they will have a city on Mars? “Mars 2117 Project” is a new space construction project which the UAE is planning by building a mini-city with an average population of 600,000 on Mars.

Space flight is next frontier for UK under new powers

Science minister Jo Johnson said the bill would “cement the UK’s position as a world leader in this emerging market” Space ports could be set up and satellites launched from regions across the UK under new powers to be unveiled this week. The Spaceflight Bill will also allow scientists to fly to the edge of space and conduct experiments in zero gravity, which could help develop vaccines and antibiotics, the Department for Transport said.

SpaceX launches Falcon 9 from historic NASA pad

A SpaceX Falcon rocket blasted off on Sunday from a Florida launch pad once used to send NASA astronauts to the moon. The 70-metre Falcon 9 went on a resupply mission to the International Space Station, while the rocket’s booster gracefully flew back to earth and successfully landed just nine minutes after take off.

Successful SpaceX launch and landing

SpaceX successfully launched a cargo capsule into orbit on Sunday, sending 5,500 pounds of food and experiments to the ISS, and gave an extra special to spectators watching the event. The leftover booster landed back at Cape Canaveral eight minutes after liftoff, a feat accomplished only twice before .

Space X launches rocket bound for ISS

The launch marks the company’s return to space after one of its rockets exploded on the launch pad in September. This rocket is carrying a spacecraft called Dragon that will bring cargo to the International Space Station.

Commercial space flights from UK by 2020 under new Govt plans

Space ports could be set up and satellites could blast off from regions across the UK under new proposals set to be unveiled this week. The Spaceflight Bill would allow scientists to conduct experiments in zero gravity – paving the way for the development of vaccines and antibiotics, the Department for Transport said.

SpaceX launches rocket from NASA’s historic moon pad

A Space X Falcon9 rocket sits on the launch pad, Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla Last-minute rocket trouble forced SpaceX on Saturday to delay its inaugural launch from NASA’s historic moon pad. SpaceX halted the countdown with just 13 seconds remaining.

SpaceX Successfully Launches Rocket From NASA’s Kennedy Space Center

After a minor setback on Saturday causing SpaceX to cancel its rocket launch 13 seconds before liftoff, Elon Musk’s aerospace company successfully sent its Falcon 9 into space this morning. Musk posted on Twitter that while the original mission was considered to be 99% fine on the readings, it wasn’t worth the slight risk, which resulted in an extra day to address any technical issues.

Sunday’s launch could be the start of an annus mirabilis for SpaceX

It was SpaceX’s second launch of 2017, and the second flight after recovering from an accident in September, 2016. SpaceX launched from the most hallowed ground of the US space enterprise on Sunday-the place where nearly all of the Moon launches occurred, and about 80 percent of all the space shuttle missions, including the vehicle’s final flight in 2011.

SpaceX launches and lands another rocket

It was the first SpaceX launch from Florida since a Falcon 9 exploded on a launch pad on September 1, 2016. Sunday’s launch was also the first from Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39 since the NASA Space Shuttles was retired in July 2011.
