Even With big cuts, Talk of Jets “Tank” is Premature

While the slew of recent roster moves made by New York Jets General Mike Maccagnan has fans and many in league circles talking about the team preparing to “tank” in 2017, the fact remains that the Jets now have a surplus of salary cap room , and it wouldn’t take all that much to elevate the team from doormat, to being at least competitive next season. Parting ways with cornerstones Nick Mangold, Darrelle Revis and Brandon Marshall have grabbed headlines as the team has created just over $33 million in salary cap space, and there are still plenty of moves that could possibly be made, some more likely than others, that could easily put the team in the $50+ million range.

Will Todd Bowles’ Fate Rest in Hands of Rex Ryan?

As the Jets prepare to play the final game of their disastrous season, one that will see them win no more than five games if they manage to pull out a week 17 victory, there’s one story line that will loom much larger than the game itself, that being head coach Todd Bowles’ job security, or lack thereof. Having lost 3 of their last 4 games by a combined score of 116-26, you can’t help but wonder if the fate of current head coach Todd Bowles will rest in the hands of the Jets former head coach, Rex Ryan.
