Texas murder suspect arrested; was in Daytona for the races

Authorities say a man suspected of killing his uncle during a land dispute in Texas was arrested after coming to Florida to attend NASCAR races at Daytona International Speedway. The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports 50-year-old Joe Earl Smith told police who arrested him Thursday that he was in town “for the races.”

Speedway Updates: Skies clearing, racing starts soon

The sun is out among the clouds at Daytona International Speedway as a fleet of Air Titans and jet dryers work to dry the track before the scheduled start of the Advance Auto Parts Clash.  The bump in the schedule makes for a busy day at the track. As soon as the race is over, drivers and teams will get ready to compete in qualifying for the Daytona 500.
