Ferry service on the South Shore is getting a long-awaited boost with the infusion of $9 million in federal grants that will go toward a new ferry dock in Hingham and a vessel in Salem, officials announced. Through the Department of Transportation's Passenger Ferry Grant Program, $6.5 million will go toward the new dock at the Hingham Ferry Terminal and $3.4 million will be used to get a new ferry vessel.
