As a refugee, Lynn Le landed at Camp Pendleton among thousands of mothers and fathers clutching their children, desperately searching for a sign that at last they would be safe in America, far from Communist persecution at the end of the Vietnam War. Her father, Phong Le, held her close to his side.

5th Marines Vietnam War Memorial Dedicated at Camp Pendleton

When the war was over, 2,706 Marines from the 5th and the Navy Corpsman that served beside that regiment had died in Vietnam. Marines: Camp Pendleton water safe, clean

Despite state and federal reports outlining concerns about staffing, equipment and reservoir problems at Camp Pendleton , military officials are telling the troops and their families that the water is safe to drink. On Thursday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that the Marine Corps had entered into a consent decree designed to shore up deficiencies exposed during a weeklong tour of the sprawling base in late June.

The self-organized Citizens Oversight group rallied residents' support to move San Onofre spent nuclear fuel off site as soon as possible. Information on the dangers of the nuclear waste and delays in moving it were shared at a town hall meeting May 4. A civil lawsuit by Citizens Oversight challenged state Coastal Commission approval of a permit to move the nuclear waste from its on-site cooling pools into in-ground storage containers.
