Steven Spielberg has spoken out about his impression of the current levels of antisemitism in the US.

Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Spielberg was asked whether the abuse faced in 1960s California by the young Jewish hero of his new film, autobiographical drama The Fabelmans, was something he recognised today.

Stephen Colbert staff members arrested for trespassing on Capitol Hill

Robert Smigel, the voice behind Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, was among the employees detained by Capitol police

Seven staff members from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert were arrested for allegedly trespassing in a Capitol Hill building on Thursday night, authorities have said. All seven were each charged with unlawful entry.

The employees, including Robert Smigel, the voice behind Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, were found by US Capitol police (USCP) officers inside the Longworth House Office Building, which houses offices for members of the House of Representatives.

The Late Show’s Stephen Colbert engaged in potentially copyright-infringing carpool karaoke with prime minister Jacinda Ardern and pranked Lorde at a barbecue – aka a “New Zealand state dinner” – as he made good on a promise to get as far away as possible from news about Donald Trump.

The chat show host got straight to it in his sit-down interview with the New Zealand prime minister for Tuesday night’s opening episode, called the “Newest Zealander”, pleading to become a citizen and offering to marry Ardern and partner Clarke Gayford.

The former first lady was greeted on stage at the O2 in London on Sunday night by tears, screams and a standing ovation. Obama was at the 20,000-capacity arena to promote her book, Becoming, which charts her journey from Chicago to the White House. The memoir has sold more than 10m copies worldwide since it was published in November. Her appearance at the event followed a similar one at the capital's Southbank Centre in December, which sold out within minutes. The Becoming tour has taken Obama to Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Paris, Oslo and Stockholm, as well as a string of events across the US and Canada.
