USDA loan program may help local flood victims

Kenosha County has issued a news release about a loan program that might be of help to victims of recent flooding: Wisconsin Emergency Management is citing a loan program available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Office as a possible source of funds to help residents affected by the recent floods. USDA Rural Development has funding available for very low and low-income individuals and families seeking to purchase or repair a home in a rural area.

Political contributions: Breaking down the data

Money matters in politics, and Kenosha County residents are part of the process, donating $1.2 million to federal candidates and political action committees since the start of the current two-year election cycle. Major Republican donor Richard Uihlein, who owns Uline, a Pleasant Prairie-based packaging and shipping supplies distributor, skewed the data for Kenosha County with a massive $1 million donation to a political action committee backing Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's presidential bid.

Low turnout expected for Aug. 9 primary

The Wisconsin Elections Commission is predicting voter turnout of just 16 percent for the partisan primary election on Aug. 9, equating roughly to 710,000 voters. "I just don't think there's enough on the ballot that will draw people out," said Schuch-Krebs, who estimates 15 to 20 percent turnout in Kenosha County.
