South Coast Rail has been on regional and state planning agendas since the late 1970s, and three times throughout its history the Stoughton route was picked as the overall most efficient, effective alternative. Moving to a Middleboro route would, again, set back the planning process for South Coast Rail, which has experienced stops and starts for decades, through six different governors.
