It might be an uphill task for Republicans to unseat Democratic incumbents Gov. Tom Wolf and Sen. Bob Casey in November. But with the dust settled from the May primary election, state Republican Party Chairman Val DiGiorgio said he is excited to begin working on get-out-the vote campaigns for gubernatorial candidate Scott Wagner and U.S. Senate candidate Lou Barletta.
Even at 81 years old, Don R. Ickes of Bedford County is continuing to pursue a civil lawsuit against several area police officers whom he claims roughed him up during a traffic stop nearly six years ago. Ickes said upon receiving notice that the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia agreed to hear his appeal from the U.S. District Court's ruling last August dismissing the lawsuit.
"We want to measure programs and spend money on what works and not on what doesn't. We have government schools, private schools, parochial schools, cyber charters - and public money is spent on all of these things," The Blair County Republican and the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the public school teachers union, have had an adversarial relationship through the years.
