Texas Senators Ted Cruz, John Cornyn to visit border facilities in Weslaco Friday

Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn are expected to tour immigrant detention facilities for children in South Texas and hold a roundtable at the Weslaco Border Patrol Station Friday afternoon, according to a press release from the office of Cornyn. The roundtable will include representatives from federal agencies involved in the process of receiving, detaining and adjudicating immigrant families, as well as non-profits and local elected officials.

Weslaco man, two others face charges related to fatal crash

A Weslaco man said a phone call from a scout alerting him to law enforcement led to a crash that left one person dead. Damian De Los Angeles Garcia, 34, faces federal harboring charges in connection with a crash Monday in Mercedes when he lost control of the SUV he was driving and crashed, according to the criminal complaint filed against him Tuesday.

House Speaker Paul Ryan confirms McAllen visit

The Office of Speaker of the House Paul Ryan publicly confirmed his visit to McAllen for the first time Wednesday morning amid tight security. "The speaker will be visiting McAllen, Texas Wednesday to examine the challenges of securing our border and learn more about the issues facing border communities," spokeswoman AshLee Strong said in a brief email.
