KC-130J Completes Successful Harvest HAWK Plus Testing

The Tactical Airlift Program Office Integrated Warfighting Capability Weapons team celebrated a successful five-week developmental and integrated test live fire event utilizing a newly configured KC-130J with the Harvest Hercules Airborne Weapons Kit Plus installed. The HH+ flawlessly completed multiple sorties, demonstrating successful strikes on both fixed and moving targets.

New continuance granted for attorney representing ex-Marine

Another continuance was granted Tuesday morning in Yuma County Superior Court to the defense attorney now representing the former Marine charged in the death of his 20-month old step daughter, as she continues preparing the case for trial. In a hearing before Superior Court Judge Stephen Rouff, attorney Cynthia Brubaker, of the Yuma County Public Defender's Office, who represents Jared Cardwell, explained that the court had given her 60 days to write a response to a prosecution reply to a defense motion, and she is still in the process of doing that.

F-35B stealth fighters head to Japan for first overseas mission

A squadron of F-35B Lightning II fighters is headed for Japan to begin the jet's first overseas mission in the Pacific. The stealth aircraft from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 departed Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz., Monday bound for Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, a Marines Corps statement said Tuesday.

MCAS-Yuma rescue unit could stay

Local military boosters and public safety agencies are optimistic about Marine Corps Air Station-Yuma and its lifesaving skills remaining in southwest Arizona, with its survival included in a defense appropriations bill awaiting the president's signature. The SAR unit at the base is now the last of its kind in the country, and was due to be disbanded along with another in North Carolina in 2015.

Feds blame pilot error, lack of oversight in Marine’s death

Federal investigators blame the Marine Corps, the Air Force and the pilot and operator of a privately-owned military jet for the death of a Marine killed last year when the jet crashed into his truck in Arizona. The National Transportation Safety Board report said the pilot of the BAE Systems Hawk jet took off too early, noting that he lifted off while traveling more than 10 mph below normal takeoff speed on March 11, 2015.
