4 killed in crash of ambulance plane in Nevada

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate a fiery crash in northern Nevada in which all four people aboard an air-ambulance flight were reported killed. The Elko Daily Free Press reports that three crew members and a patient on an American Medflight plane taking the patient to a Utah hospital were killed in the Friday evening crash in Elko.

NTSB Issues Safety Alert To Pilots On Midair Collision Prevention

The NTSB has issued a Safety Alert to pilots with suggestions on what they can do to reduce their chances of being involved in a midair collision. In an effort to illustrate the limitations of the "see and avoid" concept of aircraft separation, the NTSB created a series of animations depicting the pilots' visual field of view from each of the four airplanes involved in two midair collisions that were investigated by the NTSB in 2015.

FAA Implements No-Fly Zone over Trump Tower Through Inauguration Day

The Federal Aviation Administration has established a no-fly zone, effective immediately, over midtown Manhattan, New York until Jan. 21, 2017, the day after President-elect Donald Trump is scheduled to be inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States. The FAA's order cites "VIP Movement" as the reason, and the zone is up to 2,999 feet above the ground and a 2-mile-wide radius around Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue.

Aurora’s Centaur Locates Great White Sharks Off Nantucket Coast

Aurora recently partnered with OCEARCH, a marine conservation organization, to provide aerial support locating and tracking great white sharks off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts. The Centaur optionally piloted DA-42 aircraft flew above the expedition area in a predetermined flight pattern to help scientists aboard the OCEARCH ship target, identify and track the location of the sharks in real time.
