An Alabama man has been identified as one of five crew members reported missing after their Army helicopter went down off the coast of Hawaii. Brian Woeber, originally of Decatur, was on board the helicopter that was reported down late Tuesday night, according to social media postings from family and friends.
U.S. Coast Guard and military crews are searching the ocean off Hawaii for five crewmembers of an Army helicopter that reportedly went down during a training exercise, authorities said Wednesday. Officials at Wheeler Army Airfield near Honolulu reported losing communications around 10 p.m. Tuesday with the crew of a UH-60 Black Hawk, the Coast Guard said in a news release.
A portion of fuselage was spotted by rescue crews as a massive search continued Wednesday morning for an Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter with five people aboard that crashed about two miles off Kaena Point late Tuesday. Coast Guard, Army, Marine and Honolulu Fire Department rescue crews were deployed, and a debris field was spotted by air about 11:28 p.m. Tuesday.
