Winter Valley fire in Moffat County grows to 5,200 acres Thursday night

Smoke and flames from the Winter Valley Fire billow behind a residence Thursday afternoon as the fire whipped through Deerlodge Park in western Moffat County. The fire was first reported around noon Thursday and burned more than 3,500 acres by about 6:20 p.m. The Winter Valley fire in Moffat County grew to 5,200 acres late Thursday, threatening at least 25 to 30 homes, oil and gas structures, a communication tower and a Federal Aviation Administration tower.
