GOP, Dems focus on messages as summer recess, elections near

One House bill, backed mostly by Republicans, would repeal a tax imposed on some medical devices to help pay for President Barack Obama's health care law, a statute they despise. With another, still a bare-bones outline, the GOP would make last year's $1.5 trillion tax cut permanent and expand reductions for families, homeschooling and businesses.

Trump Considering Firing Special Counsel? Just Another Example Of Stirring The Pot

The CEO of the right-wing website Newsmax, a close friend of Trump's, has been making the media rounds saying President Trump is considering firing special counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the Department of Justice investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. "I think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel," Ruddy told PBS NewsHour Monday night, though he went on to say he thinks, personally, it would be a bad idea.

Former Rep. Giffords receives tributes at ship commissioning

Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who survived an assassination attempt in 2011 that led to her resignation from Congress, received touching tributes Saturday from female politicians and military officials at a commissioning ceremony for a warship named after her. With the naming of the littoral combat ship, the Arizona Democrat became the first living woman to have a Navy warship bear her name since the Lady Washington was named after Martha Washington in 1776; and Giffords is only the third living woman in U.S. history to see her name on a naval vessel.

WWII Vet Receives Bronze Star in San Diego

In front of four generations of family and friends, a WWII veteran from San Diego received a Bronze Star Saturday. Richard Chase, a resident of Allied Gardens, was awarded the medal for his heroic service in the U.S. military at a special ceremony at the Allied Gardens Recreation Center & Park.
