Navy Unmanned Certification Classes Begin at University of Southern Mississippi

Fifteen students began classes earlier this week at The University of Southern Mississippi, where they are expected to be the first class in the nation to earn a certification in Unmanned Maritime Systems . "This program gives us a chance to continually and rapidly train and certify our personnel to be the best in the world even before the race begins," stated Command, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command Deputy Commander and Technical Director Dr. Bill Burnett.

London has risen from sixth place overall in 2015 to fifth place this year the world's top maritime centre in Menon Economics' Leading Maritime Capitals of the World report for 2017 despite the uncertainty of Brexit. US Air Force jets intercept Russian bombers near Alaska airspace

Coin to raise funds for Coast Guard museum considered

Following the inclusion of $5 million for the National Coast Guard Museum in the federal spending bill working its way through Congress, several of Connecticut's congressional delegates are reviving a bill to create a commemorative coin that would help to raise money for the museum. U.S. Sens. Chris Murphy, D-Conn, and Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, D-2nd District, on Wednesday reintroduced the United States Coast Guard Commemorative Coin Act, which would require the U.S. Treasury to create new $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins and half-dollar coins.
